practice

The body keeps what the mind surrenders.

— from a notebook, 2019

i.

form

A slow hatha built around seated shapes and long holds. No heating, no music, no counting. The teacher will adjust you only if asked. Most students find the first class uneventful; this is intentional.

ii.

lineage

The teaching descends from the Anuttara school of Kashmiri Shaivism. Carl studied for seven years under Swami Ramprasad in Rishikesh, and subsequently with Jean-Luc Abelard in Montréal and Nira Devi in Mysore. He does not consider himself a guru and prefers not to be addressed as one.

iii.

what to bring

Wool socks. A mat, if you have one. An hour earlier than you think. Do not eat for three hours before evening sessions. If you are unwell, stay home; the practice will keep.
